A meeting on health disparities was held to build a research and action agenda for reducing disparities in health care quality among priority populations.
Developed an implementation plan for an ambulatory EMR in a medically underserved region that electronically connects physician offices, the regional hospital, ancillary services, and other community health services. The project work identified indicators that track measurable improvements in patient safety, quality of care, clinician and patient satisfaction, and operational efficiency.
This project funded a meeting convened on October 21 and 22, 2008 that brought together recognized national experts in the areas of patient safety and EHRs in order to accelerate the adoption and use of an electronic health information infrastructure in the United States.

Drs. Pascale Carayon and Ben-Tzion Karsh led a team that studied the existing research related to the impacts of health IT on workflow in outpatient settings and how health IT can be used to assess workflow in these settings. The information led to the development of a toolkit to help small and medium-sized medical practices assess their workflows before implementing a health IT system.

Establishes a Web-based electronic medical record system for 10 small rural hospitals to connect them to the area's regional medical center. The project's ultimate goal is to quickly give alImplements a regional health information exchange among an established collaborative of hospitals, clinics, and providers across Nebraska's remote 14,000-square-mile western panhandle; also helps participating providers acquire the equipment and other resources necessary to share laboratory and pharmaceutical data, as well as electronic medical records.
