A National Web Conference on Utilizing Health IT to Improve Medication Management for the Care of Elderly Patients

Overall Purpose:
This two segment, one hour webinar will feature a presentation by co-presenters Drs. Gurwitz and Field who will summarize their research on the incidence and causes of adverse drug events in the long term care and ambulatory setting. They will also present the results of a series of studies of health information technology-based interventions to improve medication prescribing and monitoring. Dr. Lapane will follow with a presentation of her research regarding the older adults perception of issues related to medication and e-prescribing.. She will also discuss tools that leverage health IT to improve patient-centered pharmacy care for older adults
Learning Objectives:
- Explore how health IT is affecting the care of the elderly population.
- Describe the challenges of caring for the elderly in different settings and how health IT application may improve care.
- Physicians will be able to describe how health information technology can be used to improve health care quality
- Physicians will be able to identify health information technology strategies to implement in their practice to improve health care decision making, support patient-centered care, and improve the quality and safety of medication management.
