A National Web Conference on the Impact of Implementing Novel Health IT Interventions for Cancer Screening, Diabetes, and Childhood Illnesses

Event Date: July 31, 2014 | 2:30pm – 4:00pm ET

Overall Purpose:

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has identified a gap in health care and public health practitioners’ knowledge of health IT using multiple mechanisms, including the findings of the continuing education (CE) planning group. This series of Web conferences is designed to increase practitioners’ ability to improve health care decisionmaking, support patient-centered care, and improve the quality and safety of care through the use of health IT. Implementing successful health IT interventions in medical organizations can lead to delivery of better quality care and use of resources. Measuring the effectiveness of an intervention is an important step in the implementation process and helps to determine its success. This Web conference reviewed the methodology, implementation, and evaluation of health IT interventions that affect preventive cancer screening rates, diabetes outcome measures, and utilization of telemedicine services for acute childhood illnesses.

  1. Explain the process for facilitating preventive cancer screening using health IT for population management.
  2. Discuss methods for assessing the impact of an ambulatory EHR on documented care and outcomes of patients with diabetes.
  3. Investigate the process for implementing an ambulatory EHR with an embedded diabetes management form and its effectiveness on the quality of diabetes care.
