Kansas

Team Description

Welcome to the State of Kansas Health Information Security and Privacy Collaboration (HISPC) informational page. Kansas is one of 34 states and territories awarded subcontracts through RTI International, in partnership with the NationalGovernors Association Center for Best Practices, to study health information privacy and security issues, barriers to health information exchange, and to develop solutions to those barriers. This project is critical to ensuring that electronic health information exchange processes protect individual's privacy and will play a significant role in health information exchange at both the state and national levels.

John E. Moore, Lieutenant Governor State of Kansas

How to get involved

Stakeholder input is integral to this collaboration. There are a number of ways for you to get involved and share information that will contribute to the success of this project. Check this web portal on a regular basis for updated information about the HISPC and upcoming events, as well as to e-mail the project team feedback on issues and get involved in one of four working groups: Variations, Legal, Solutions and Implementation Plan.

The Variations Working Group (VWG) will assess variations in business practices and policies and categorize them as barriers, best practices or neutral with regard to interoperability. The VWG will work closely with the Legal Working Group which will assess privacy and security policies underlying regulations, statutes, court cases, etc. and will identify legal sources of barriers to interoperable health information exchange (HIE). The Solutions Working Group will formulate preliminary solutions to the identified barriers, and the Implementation Plan Working Group will propose preliminary implementation plans for interoperable HIE.
