Atif Zafar, M.D., holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences and Mathematics from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and completed medical school in 1994 at the same institution. He is a board-certified internist, currently in practice at the Indiana University Medical Center and is the Information Technology Director of a national primary care research support group funded by AHRQ.

His research interests include human-computer interfaces, such as the study of speech recognition, mobile computing, and best practices for electronic data capture in clinical settings. He also has interest in clinical education using informatics-based interventions. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. and the Association for Computing Machinery.
