Personal Health Records and Elder Medication Use Quality

Description:

Personal Health Records (PHR) are controlled by patients and assist them to store information about their medications and health conditions. Patients can use PHRs to share their information with their healthcare providers. We are proposing a study of the effects of a PHR on medication adherence, medication use quality, and medication management behaviors.

EMR Planning to Improve North Iowa Health Care
Description:Designed a system-wide patient-centered planning process and an EHR implementation plan that securely exchanged patient information within and across diverse health care settings for the Hancock County Memorial Hospital, in addition to 21 affiliated physician health organization clinics.

Privacy and Security Solutions for Interoperable Health Information Exchange / Iowa
Description:

Thirty-three states and 1 territory formed the HISPC, which aims to address the privacy and security challenges presented by electronic health information exchange through multi-state collaboration. With the support of its state or territorial governor, each team engaged a steering committee and a range of local stakeholders to 1) assess variations in organization-level business policies and state laws that affect health information exchange; 2) identify and propose practical solutions, while preserving the privacy and security requirements in applicable Federal and State laws and 3) develop detailed plans to implement solutions.

Rural Iowa Redesign of Care Delivery with EHR Functions
Description:Implemented a comprehensive, integrated, EHR system with CPOE and clinical decision-support tools in hospital inpatient units, ambulatory care, primary care and specialty clinics, home health, and hospice care; also evaluated medical errors and near misses, use of evidence-based practices, responsiveness to adverse drug alerts, and patient/provider satisfaction.

Electronic Health Record Implementation for Continuum of Care in Rural Iowa
