A National Web Conference on Using Health IT to Support Improvements in Clinical Workflow

Health IT can assist in providers’ information processing, health care decision making, and ultimately, delivery of high quality of care. However, health IT applications can limit rather than support a provider’s ability to provide care unless appropriately designed to take into account providers’ information needs and workflow processes. This Web conference will review research that analyzes clinical workflows in diverse clinical settings and evaluates how health IT can be designed to support clinical workflow and improve clinical care.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this Web conference, participants should be able to:
- Discuss the ability of clinical workflow analysis to increase the likelihood of a successful health IT intervention that improves efficiency and quality of care in three clinical settings.
- Describe the relationship between cognitive burden and workflow in an emergency department setting and the potential for health IT to support effective decision making.
