Team Description
The Massachusetts Health Data Consortium (MHDC) is pleased to have been designated by Governor Romney of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to be the Project Leader to manage the Health Information Security and Privacy Collaborative (HISPC) subcontract from RTI for the Massachusetts healthcare community. The project is funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC). MHDC andMassachusetts providers, payers, government agencies, and consumers recognize the importance of federal involvement and coordination in order to promote the widespread adoption and use of interoperable electronic health records. We recognize that the technical hurdles are in many ways may be the easiest ones to clear. However, if the public is to have confidence in HIT and HIE, privacy and security considerations will need to be addressed directly and satisfactorily. We look forward to advancing this necessary and welcome national privacy and security collaboration with a wide scope of stakeholders to identify the issues and best practices, and providing privacy and security solutions for interoperable health information exchange.
How to get involved
For the MA-HISPC Project, Stakeholders invested in the issues of privacy and security clinical data exchange have been identified in over 20 categories of providers, payers, government agencies, and consumer representatives. The Project Structure has a Steering Committee at the core of responsibility with representation drawn from the Commonwealth, MHDC, and Stakeholder Groups. The chart below summarizes the project relationships. The Project goal is to complete a stakeholder inclusive work process that uses specified clinical data exchange scenarios to determine the impact of each on defined privacy and security areas. When the specific use case scenarios are released to the states by RTI, the MA-HISPC Steering Committee will review the Stakeholder representation to date and where indicated reach out for additional representation.
